Hey guys and gals. I'm not exactly new here I just haven't logged in for a while. Now that I am seeing folks active on this forum again I figured I'd give it another shot. My questions here involve mew designs and an estimated cost for them. Currently I am on a limited income and things do not seem to be improving. Let me explain my situation a bit here.
I love birds, always have and always will. Unfortunately for me I have RRMS with CPEO-complex, which is an incurable mitochondrial disease that will eventually severely limit my sight and movement. I have already lost control of my right eye to such a degree that it is fixed in place most of the time and when it does move, I am often unaware of it. That being said, if I am going to enjoy falconry at all - I have no time to spare. My disease will only progress, there are no treatments to slow it and there is no way to have it go into remission. I need to find a way to get a simple 8x8 mew built at as little cost as possible so I can use the rest of my money for equipment and food stuffs for the raptor.
There is a chance that I may not be able to become a falconer if I end up on disability... which would make me incredibly sad. However, I am determined to still use my mew and care for a disabled bird of prey in it. So my mew need not be anything fancy but it must be able to house either a healthy raptor or a disabled one.
Also, I live on a hillside and I need to use this hillside because it would take a LOT to level it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a mew I can build on ground that is not level?
Does anyone have any blueprints for an 8x8 design?
Does anyone know where I can buy cheap lumber or know of a wholesale supplier of building materials?
My goal is to build this mew within two years, if I can get some great advice, maybe sooner. I'm pretty desperate, I guess since getting my diagnosis I'm just feeling kinda limited but not hopeless.
I really enjoyed the times I've hunted with my would-have-been sponsor and his Harris's Hawks, and I'd like to continue falconry. So any advice on how I can do this would be great. My medical expenses are, as you can imagine, astronomical. So if I can save money on building costs, all thes rest of what I have can go into care and management. If anyone has any ideas, links, or advice, please post them.
