Hate to ask this question usmcsgt, but does your sponsor actually hunt his bird? I know you mentioned that you are both part of the SCA (which is a Renaissance guild).
Yes he does. For the SCA the birds are used for educational purposes. When not at an event the birds go hunting quite regularly. Thanks for asking. I know some would be hesitant on using a sponsor that does not hunt. I definately would not. I want to be a falconer for the enjoyment of watching them hunt.

I've had some SCA experience. I know of a few falconers that play. I did NOT become a falconer to do education. Not one of falconers I met who were in the SCA were worthy of my respect. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
Yarak, That was the first question I asked if he hunted. He and his wife are both master falconers. He hunts them and when they go to SCA events his wife uses them for education. That is why I went with him as my sponsor, because I want to hunt. I only go to about 3 weekend events a year so I'll have lots of time to hunt.
Is the updated website for the Kansas Hawking Club. The club officers aren't up to date, but the contact for Vanessa and Monte should still be good (Randy has moved and still unpacking, I understand, and Bill works nearly every day).
The NAFA meet for this fall is scheduled to be in Hutchinson, KS (was going to be Hays, but there was a glitch and they just changed it a couple of weeks ago). Will be great to attend!
I just submitted my app for an apprentice permit here in Kansas. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.
