does anyone know of a place in middle tennessee that i could get the california hawking club's apprentice study guide in a store instead of ordering it online?
well i would order it online but my i dont have a credit or debit card and i am stuck using my own money so i cant order it online unless i get my mom or dad to order it for me.
There are no FALCONRY stores in TN. You will have to order it online . eBay may be a less expensive option , however usually copies on eBay are from Western Sporting anyhow. Just have your parents order it an give them the money for it . Something to keep in mind is that the Study Guide will be your least expensive purchase by far when acquiring Falconry gear and building appropriate facilities .

ok, thanks and i will keep that in mind. as for the getting my parents to orderit for me, i had never thought of that. thanks for the help.
If you are running Windows, you can download a study guide program I wrote a couple years ago that is based on the New York State Falconry Examination Manual. Keep in mind, if your state has already moved to the new regulations, any of the old study guides may be a little dated.
i am using a shared computer.i have to share with my brother so i am not alowed to download anything without my brothers and moms permishion but i can ask if i can download it.thanks for the link though

You could check with your local library or local book store. The library can request pretty much any book for you, that way you don't have to buy it. The local book store probably has at least one book about falconry as well if you want to buy something locally.

cool, i will ask my library to help me find some books. do you recomend any book stores inperticular because i have checked with a few around here in mcminnville,TN and they dont have any?
Being from middle TN , I assure you the library loaner system on falconry books is minimal. The 3-4 available are seriously out of date or Not informative enough for a would be apprentice . If someone in your Family is a college student , some of the universities that do Book Share have a few more choices but not the study guide . Marks Online study guide is really good and worth reading for sure . The Newest version of the TN state Falconry Exam is based almost entirely on the CHC Study guide aside from the questions about state regs and laws which can be found in the Free packet you request from the state . In fact , when you get your packet in the mail , there is a printed copy of Western Sportings sales page for the CHC guide for just that reason .

ok, my sister is in college so i could have here check for me. i can read the study guide from markt if i get permission to download it. thanks for all the advice, it helps alot
Tom, If you go to www.themodernapprentice.com under their equipment link they have a suggested reading list . Try having your sister look for the books off of the list for apprentices . You can also go to the North American Falconers Association website and look at their suggested reading list. Honestly , I would order the FREE packet from the state before reading or purchasing anything else. If you contact falconers from the packet , in your area , they may be willing to let you borrow books . You'll never know until you try. One thing to keep in mind , some sponsors want their apprentices to follow their directions and theirs only . Once you meet a few would be Sponsors they will put you on the track they think is best for you. This will likely include books to read.

ok, i will have my sister look for me. i have contacted me state and am waiting for my free packet. i will contact some of the falconers on the list like you said i should. i never thought of that, when i was researching online, which i know is not always correct, and it said that its better to get your license first because it showes your future sponsor that you are really serius but i am not sure how true that is because the internet is not always trust worthy.
Check with your state, but in my area you need to have a sponsor BEFORE you can take the test/get your license- and I know many (if not all) other states are the same.

Not true for TN.... It does show some forethought and initiative on your part to take the initial steps yourself. Most of the would be sponsors around TN , Will be impressed by your initiative of taking the test before hand . It shows your willingness to gather knowledge and take some initiative yourself. The Test , once taken and passed at the region 2 headquarters of the TWRA (its only $10 to take the test ) is good for 3 years while you find a sponsor . I wouldn't suggest building a mews without input from your sponsor but the test is just a formality , go ahead an get it out of the way once you feel secure with the information you have accrued .
