Thought I would get motivated and actually make a thread of different things I have worked on. I started drawing birds in '09, then quit drawing altogether for about 2 years... now I have picked it up again.
'Nantucket'... tiercel Peale's peregrine, 2.5x3.5" guache on canvas
supposed to be a SSHA, but looks more like a COHA. Sketched with ballpoint pen on cardstock without reference. 4.5"x5.5"
boli sketch on cardboard of my PFRT 'Azula'
pencil sketch (which didn't photograph well) of one of the Aplomado Falcons I hacked last summer. I hope this little guy is doing well out there on his own.
As I draw/scan/photograph more work, I'll try to remember to post it here.
Keep posting these! You have talent and obviously aren't intimidated by using different mediums which is a great mindset. I'd love to see more of your artwork as you continue to improve.
Thanks. I love working with gouache, part of the trouble is I didn't have a small enough brush to go in and add more detail when I painted Nantucket. That and I was in a truck at the time.
I'll try to get some other things finished up and posted. I have an Aplo painting to work on over the next few days.
It's not a raptor (so I changed the thread title to be a bit broader), but it's the most recent thing I've done. Laughing Gull Larus atricilla in ink on cardstock.
Also, some older works: Tundra GHO in oil on canvas.

I like the owl one a lot! While i'm not an artist, my only critique would be the bird's eyes. It is very difficult to capture the essence of a raptor and i think the eyes is where it happens. Id try to get the raptors eyes to the way the wren or GHO's are, they are powerful in those two pictures!

Thanks FB - The GHOW and wren are probably my two favourites here. I did them when I was still doing art regularly... the others are the things I've done since picking up the pencil/paint again about 2 years later. The Laugher appears lifeless, but it's got something to do with my reference material I'm sure. I am contemplating translating that study to a canvas, making him wide-eyed and awake, and putting a lighthouse with some waves breaking against it in the background.
