My almost 1 yr old falcon had a crack or split in his upper beak, I noticed a noise while he was eating and also that he often had the beak open when he was at rest. Now the cracked part of the beak is missing so he has a bite-shaped gap in the edge (tiny but visible).
He eats up to 1 quail daily which is skinned and I thought that would be enough to wear his beak down. He has a concrete slab but never seems to want to use it.
Some of the advice I have found online or in books includes giving him a whole turkey neck, giving him a raw marrow bone, rubbing the beak with oil and filing it down. I also read that, once you start clipping the beak, you have to continue doing it so I'd rather avoid it. I'd also prefer not to take him to a vet.
I'd really appreciate any advice!!!! Thanks in advance, everyone.
