Im new to this website but anyways, im about to turn 14 and have been interested in falconry for many years. I am wanting to start to study for the falconry test. Im getting the california hawking club study guide sometime next week. What other books would be good to read to learn and study. Is there any websites that have good information to study? I am really interested so please dont put rude comments. THANKS!!!
Nick Foxes book , Understanding The Bird of Prey for the medical stuff , The Redtail Hawk , American Kestrels in Modern Falconry, Buteos And Bushytails, DIRT HAWKING. That should get you started
but seriously, these books are a bit beyond your first task - passing the test. the study guide and knowing your state's Reg's will get you through that.
For Oklahoma that is most definitely not the case. The new regs required a new test. Which was adopted last year. Knowing the CHC guide and the state regs will NOT enable you to pass your test. You need to read all the other books and know your stuff. The medical part is the most difficult and hence you will need to read the Nick fox book as its about the only one available that details medical information anymore. If you can get hold or borrow a copy of the North American Falconry and Hunting Hawks for there medical section that would be wise. My understanding the fed/state regs only take up 5% of the test. The rest is ethics, Medical and Husbandry.
aaronbuckner as your 13 you'll also have to take your hunter education exam before they will issue you with a permit. That is required to get your Hunting Permit as your under 35 years old.
Aaron when your ready you will also have to book an appointment in Oklahoma city to take your test at the wildlife department. On June the 4th the OFA are having our state picnic okfalconry.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101 you might want to consider attending.
