Recently I have Volunteered at a local Wildlife Rescue organization who has a Red Tailed Hawk that is blind in one eye. I have never worked with raptors before however I have tons of Parrot Knowledge. I know that it is completely two different things... however I am looking at my task as a wonderful and hopefully rewarding challenge as I have always been interested in Falconry. The opportunity has never presented itself until now. I am volunteering at a licensed Rescue/Rehab organization. I was hoping some of you could offer me up some suggestions as to where to being my training/understanding of the task that lies ahead of me. I am interested in taking some classes and maybe becoming licensed myself, however, I do not know quite where to start. Any suggestions?
You can start my joining the Virginia Falconers Association. We just had a meet this past weekend in Winchester. Read all the info/books you can and get knowlegdable before pursuing any falconers. I also volunteer at a rehab center and am a pre-apprentice.
Thank you, I will certainly check into that. I have ordered a few books and waiting to receive them. I appreciate your response. I am in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Oh snap! More Hampton Roads people! I'm moving there in the fall - the VFA is a good place to start, I've found, and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries can supply you with contact information for nearby falconers.
