Hi all, my name is Mike and I live in western NY. Im 42 yrs old w/ a wife and 3 great kids. Ended up taking an early retirement from the phone co. My wife is a stay at home mom. I have trapped and fished my whole life and consider myself an accomplished woodsmen. I also enjoy nature photography. I am very interested in hunting w/ a raptor. I have called the DEC and they are sending me the apprentice package. I live on 7 acres and have all kinds of time to devote. I would love to start w/ a kestrel for my apprentice. Great site here. Mike
Bumping this to say I'm in the Buffalo area this week, so if anybody is within a 2 hour drive from here and would be willing to let me tag along (during feeding, training, cleaning or anything else) I would appreciate it. I've been interested in falconry for as long as I can remember, yet never actually got to see it up close--only through TV or books. Thanks.

If you could put me in contact with him or ask him yourself, I'd appreciate it. Even if he's done flying and released his bird, I wouldn't mind just seeing his mews and whatever other stuff he can show me. It's pretty frustrating being so interested in something for so long and not seeing any of it firsthand, anything goes a long way.
I'm Jim. I originally lived in Rockland County and was a falconer through high school. I had to stop when I went away to college, that didn't work out too well, and now I'm posting from Iraq. I'll be moving to the Cobleskill NY area when I return, for another shot at school. I don't know if I'll be able to keep a bird in the near future, but I'd love to get involved again in the meantime.
