Hello all. I have a question, and was hoping someone could help me out with it. Now, I know that each area is different, and every situation lends to it's own pros and cons, but I was hoping for some type of "generalized" answer. This is the situation. I am flying my first RT, and am wanting to get her going on squirrels. I focused on rabbits in the beginning, because my sponsor and I felt that it was important to instill a solid base of following along, and focusing on me while in the field. We caught rabbit number 10 the other day, and she now understands fully the "name of the game", and the purpose that I play in it. I introduced her to squirrels yesterday, and had some really nice flights. She initially would just hall balls toward them, hoping that she would score on the ground. She quickly realized that this wasn't the best tactic, and started taking perchs above them, and would then try and cork screw down the trunk, and nab them off the side. I am pleased with her initial introduction (though she is no where near to figuring out the "game" yet), and am thinking she has the makings of a great squirrel hawk. This is my question. Once we make the transition to "real" squirrel hawking, what have you found to be the most condusive type of situation for entering them onto squirrels? Have you found it easier to go to "thicker" areas, that tend to have tons of vines and what not, that can be shaken in order to keep the squirrels moving, or have you found it easier to go to places like pecan orchards, cemetaries, or golf courses, where there tends to be little underbrush and growth, and more "open" trees? Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. If this has been discussed somewhere else, feel free to post the link to the thread
