ok this friday i will be picking up a Brittany spaniel puppy from a hunter who lives just a lil bit outside of los angeles i haven't started falconry although i pass the state test and have all my hawking gear! and i was wondering if any of you guys or gals train a brittnay and could give me some give advice on starting my pup on birds
i will post a few pics this weekend im so excited!!
Awesome! So he's doing THAT part instinctively...you'll need to teach him a "whoa" or "hold" command so he DOESN'T get it unless you tell him to! But he's doing the hard part all by himself, just like he's bred to.
Great pup, Brittany's are super sweet!

I already have 2 dogs, and neither is ever going to be a hunting dog. A choc lab and a beagle mix.
Why not? Both have EXCELLENT natural hunting instincts. You actually have two ideal hunting dogs...if I were you I would put some training into them before you even get a bird. Good thing to use up all that idle time.
