your back yard has a hell of a slope! how much$$$ ? i like chain link and would have built some base to accomodate for the slope. just an idea. it looks like it will work fine.
and why worry about the slope? its for the safety of my hawk, not my comfort ;-) besides, im 5'10 and i can stand up in there in the front part, and get to the bird just fine.
and yes.... my back yard is slopped.. and thats not even half of it...
I only use my eagle tire indoors. The sun makes it hot which may cause burns. I modified mine figuring she might jump into the tire for whatever reason and get her talons/toes caught under/around the cable (some use bungi cords). I recknon if I can think it may happen, it likely will eventually. I chose a wide tire for height to accomodate her tail when she's sitting erect; a heavy tire she couldn't drag; and one almost bald so the leash doesn't get hung up on tread. (Earlier in another thread, Matt suggested a racing slick, which could be a better choice.) She's used it for 7 years with no incidents or foot problems.
I cut a circle of heavy wood and bolted it to the sidewall. Tie ring bolted to the wood in the center. Drilled drain holes in the sidewall bottom so water drains out after hosing. (Bottom)
Trimmed the sidewall bead back to accomodate her foot size. The sidewall 'gives' nicely under her 17 pounds of weight. (Top view)
Yeah, Mr. Migisi shoulda cleaned up some before taking the pics. The tire perch does collect stuff.
Saw this the otherday out in the barn! It really looks good! I wonder if it would work in the back of a SUV or truck for a traveling perch with the bird hooded?
I put it in the back of my 4runner with the back seats folded down, put a sheet up and used it as a bowl to catch mutes, dogs in a kennel in the back...
then the parents yelled at me, and told me to use one of the 10000's hawk boxes on my back porch...
that and people can see in and see the bird... i prefer a box. and so should you, yours for only one payment (or more) of 75.00 and shipping! ;-)
