Hey - I cannot find for the life of me in any place the requirements for a mew. This is the biggest constraint on me and the thing I am most worried about. I have had experience training different types of raptors in a education and rehabilitation facility, but I have never had my own bird. Now, I want to practice the art of falconry, but I cannot find any regulations for size beyond "the bird must be able to fully open it wings, etc.". I would like to know what size requirements are for both a kestel and redtail. I live in California. Any help?
Thanks

You have a lot more to find out about Falconry other than a mews size. You need to contact your state agency for wildlife and ask for the Falconry Packet. You have to take test, have sponsor before you need to worry about a mews. Try contacting the California Hawking Club at www.calhawkingclub.org/inc.htm

Hey - I have taken the test and passed. I have seen CHC's page. Before I commit myself to this, I want to make sure it is acutally realistic. I don't want to go through all the procedures to find out that I can't build a mew where I live. I have the falconry packet in a pdf form. Anyone out there able to answer my question?

8' tall would be nice, but in the event that you can't do that (like me) I have found from several experienced falconers that 7' or even 6' (though it's not recommend) is acceptable. From what I've heard, the hight of a mew is more personal preference than anything else.
The 8' cube is kind of the standard, but as myck said, that number is more of a go-by than set in stone.
