I watched Jemima Perry Jones's video on Owls last night. Quite a good movie. ;D
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
Alex, that may be one of the reasons ppl like to catch them and take them home as orphaned or injured. They look large enough to take care of themselves, but they're still downy. Conclussion: they must need human intervention!

Sorry it took so long to get back and post. Yes the owl was returned. But It worked out even better. We did some more searching around the area where it was found and we came accross a old bird house that was put not too far away. There were 2 more baby owls in there and so my friend and I took up camp near by. It didnt take long about 20 min later the parent owl came home with some grub for the nesters. So we waitied a while longer, the parent owl went out for search for more food and we placed the little one back in the nest. I am happy to say that all 3 owls and the parent owl are doing fine and are keeping the area free from mice and just about everything else they can get their hooks into. lol.. all but toads. We have a large amount of toads in the area and one night we were sitting out on the porch having a beer and talking, and swooosh down comes one of the babys right on to a toad. Had the little wart covered thing for about 2 sec before it found out that toads make bad eating. She spent the next 15 min on the fence shaking her head. She really didnt like the taste of that toad. lol.. So, happy ending here. Thanks everyone for your help in this!

I have never seen or heard of a hood used or designed for a GHO Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
This conversation just came up recently on another list the other day. One guy on there actually did make one out of a modified anglo-eagle hood. He said it worked OK. I guess you just have to be careful of the head feathers and the eyes.

I've read that's it's good to imprint on a GHO, and I've also heard that it's not good to imprint, I was wondering if owls will turn into screachers if you imprint them because I read about imprinting in a book, but it rarly spoke of owls?
I do not know much about the subject but I do believe that with owls you have to imprint them or they do not end up tolerating you for however long you have them.
but once again I could be wrong... and I know next to nothing.
