If anyone feels that falconry is unsafe maybe they should take up chess.
Ok guys. this type of post is unacceptable. Over at Hawk-L or Hawk-1 whatever it is called that might be allowed, but over here we arent gonna fly that way. There will be NO insulting eachother, nor making fun of eachother. No harrassment will occur furthur on this server, or you will recieve a warning, and if it continues you will be banned. I WILL NOT hesitate to ban people. The thing thats keeps this server above the rest is that we are a tight-knit, well informed group that keeps it clean and readily excepts new people without a problem. If it was your first day on the site, and you saw that quote, would you stay? I didnt think so. From now on, NO harrassment of any type will be tolerated. Harassment=Ban!

I dont think he meant it as an insult FalconBoy, It was more of a warning. Also, its " JIM!" You know he didnt mean any harm. Im sorta taking a risk here defending him ( me wanting to be your moderator and all ) but I think you ought to know.

The way i took it and a few others i asked about it took it to be a mocking statement. Different people interpret it different ways. And just becuase it is Jim saying it does not make a difference to me. ANYONE who harasses ANYONE will be warned and/or banned. End of story.

I think owls are awesome as well, but there use in American Falconry is really yet to be determined. GHO's are probably at some point going to catch on with owl fans, what they are going to be hunted on is beyond me. I personally think it would be cool to fly them on squirrels. Any opinions?

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
I could see flying GHOs on squirrels and rabbits, even jacks. They take skunks and racoons in the wild, so a jack or a swamper shouldn't be much harder. They wreaked havoc on my chickens one year. Maybe you could set them on Pheasant (just kidding ;D)

Hmmm... not a bad idea, Jim! Not bad at all. That could be as useful as telemetry. The one and only person i knew that flew a GHO did so in the day light. He seemed to think that it didn't matter much. Just think of it as an owl's version of working the Night Shift

...hunting in daylight, interesting. I'd love to see one flown. I've read that owls are difficult to "mann" and very stubborn. Has anyone hunted with them? Sorry for all the "new guy" questions. its very fascinating to me
My story: New to falconry. Reading lots of material. I dont plan on getting into falconry any time soon, I'd just like to start learning.
Hey, that's what this site is all about!. There are quite a few people that fly GHO's. you just have to look at a few things about this bird to get an idea what makes it different for falconry. 1. you can't hood them(at least not that I have ever heard of), 2. their eyes are so big that it leaves a VERY small area for a brain, 3. They are dusk and dawn hunters, 4. They can carry three times their own body weight which means they can take most quarries into a tree to eat, 5.They are big and STRONG birds of prey with more than double the gripping power than an RT I am told....Oh yea, I almost forgot, they are one of the only natural predators of skunks......
