Yes the bird will be teathered inside the weathering area at all times, also i will only have him out there while i am in the area and can keep and eye on him. also the sunlight in the moring from 8-11 is shown inside the weathering mew very well. there is only a little bit of shade. also the reason that i didnt just have a pure wire roof is because my state inspector said that i needed to have a roof on it.
Cjinx the inspector that we have is very pickey, follow the state manual to the key orelse you might fail. she almost failed me because i had 2 perches inside of my mews and in the guide it says have 1 perch located under the windor for the bird. hehe good luck

That is insane. A mew with just one perch, it should read at least one perch. I have 5 perches in my mews. 2 window perches, 1 shelf perch, a swinging perch, and a pole perch. Not to mention the food shelf.

Well thought i would let everyone know that i am now an official Apprentice. I just recieved my federal permit today in the mail. i am currently filling out my capture forums with my sponser and will be sending them out tomorrow. now all i have left is to wait till september to get my RT, or maybe Kestrel.
Also i have to make a run to my college and pick up some rats, best place my sponser has found for free food is to find a college that does tests on rats. no chemical tests just behavior tests and then humanly kills the rats. hehe he gets so many that he doesnt know what to do with them all.
Good for you Josh! whichh college is it? SUNY canton, potsdam, Clarkson, Paulsmiths?

Ok have a question for everyone, i am now needing to buy a creance and a set of bells. i was wondering what everyone uses and if there are any suggestions on what to buy.
Here is what i was thinking of getting for a creance. Either
I'd go to a hardware store and buy a big, heavy wrench and then buy about 150' of parachute cord for your creance. Then, I'd buy my bells directly from Dave Noble. I used Larry Counce's bells my first year and although they did fine, they were nowhere near as easy to hear as the Noble bells (brass/bronze combo). You'll also save some money ordering from him directly. PM me and I'll give you his e-mail address. -Joe
Joe, Dont forget some people have an easier time hearing certain tones. Personally i can't hear low bells worth a sh*t. While most people can hear noble's the best, there are a few who find others easier to hear

I use counce bells. Last year I used size 4 (supposed to be RT size) and they were excellent, and this year I switched to size 5 (slightly smaller) because I hear high tones better. They hold up well and are relatively inexpensive bought straight from counce ($15/pair). The website is correct and up to date, although someone in europe has said they couldnt contact him. I ordered my new set about a month ago and they came in the mail 5 days later.

I have used Nobles bells and they are of the highest quality. As far as the creance, I made one just like the one that Western Sporting has for under $5. David
I have made my own creance but my sponser doesnt know if the bird will break it or not. i have 2 cords each 100 feet one has a break strength of 90 pounds the other has a break strength of 120 pounds... will either of those work? if so it will save me some money.
Thanks for the advise on the bells i will order direct, and get noble's bells.
yes it is true the new fed laws are changing but it is still up to the state to adopt the new rules or stay more stringent. as far as the HH is considered it is up to your sponsor if you can fly a HH or not. I know quite a few sponsor falconers that are not going to allow there APs to fly the HH. the AP is going to take a rt and that is it. I feel that it is fine to fly a HH but you will fly a RT before you become a general. AP buying a HH the first yr is not going to be a good option because they cost money and you are going to have to get rid of it to fly your RT. learn to fly a RT with proficiency and you can fly most any thing you want
