I use 2" PVC but you can use a little smaller/larger depending on what type of bird your flying, I also use 4 elbows so that the perch doesn't go all the way to the wall, and spaced about 14" (I think) away from the window.
I have 2, one about 5 feet, the other is 3 ft, depends on the situation you have in your mews...
The way I attached the PVC was to drill a 2" hole in a square piece of 2x4 and then screw that to the wall, insert the pipe and fasten it with screws from each side of the square 2x4 base/holder ... (pre-drill)
The astroturf is just zip-tied onto the PVC. I got the astroturf from door mats and cut 'em up to the right size.
My new project is to "paint" something kind of like a truck bed liner to the backs of the perches to make it easeier to pressure wash and clean all the mutes...
Do any of you guys use a smooth surface for ease of cleaning, such as that stuff for showers... or heavy duty paint, if so what? How does it work?
you might also consider a sterdy paint that could hold up if piwer washed. I have a really thick sturdy paint that doesn't peal, I washed it with the power washer and nothering happend eccept it got clean.
