Another step taken, I just passed inspection today. Of course, the game warden forgot to bring the inspection form so now I wait a few more days to get it and attach a copy to my application, and really begin to wait.
Tell me about it. It took him about 10 days to return my call to schedule the inspection . When 20 minutes passed after he didn't show to today's scheduled inspection, I called and left another message only to find out that he "completely forgot" about the inspection. He finally arrived over an hour late, without the inspection form. I'm a little concerned because he didn't even know what the heck he was supposed to be looking for anyway! After I presented the facility/equipment in sufficient detail, he admitted that he didn't know as much as me about this stuff, and literally shrugged his shoulders and gave me a thumbs up. I made sure to emphasize the important details that he will likely come across in his checklist (if he remembered to look at it and fill out my form later!!!) I'm following up on his progress first thing Monday morning.
His name wasnt by any chance Joe or somthing with a J? Cuz if it is its the same guy that wanted me to put chicken wire on the inside of my k- bird mew over a gap that a sparrow couldnt have gotten through. Since i was so new and confused about everything I did it anyways just to get it over with and didnt worry about it since my bird wasnt going to stay outside in the mews. I dont think they train the inspectors well here in Utah, the guy was nice and polite about everything but didnt really know much. Mainly he just made shure my mew was the min size 6x4 and that was all.
My soul is sick of chicken soup, it wants some chocolate!
No, this guy just got hired a few weeks ago. He was completely clueless about falconry. I hope he doesn't want to schedule another inspection if he does not remember all the details of my stuff that he must check in order to sign me off. That would really bother me.
Don't know if this is the right thread for it but I'll make it work. I don't know if you guys have seen it but in Falconry, Art and Practice by Emma Ford their is a really good mews plan.

yeah you guys are right... the inspectors dont know anything. Alot of the falconers here in Eastern WA noticed that and got a contract with the Wildlife dept. to actually do the inspections on the apprentice mews as they know what to look for... you should try to get something like that in your states for the well being of your birds... who knows how many bad "falconers" that do just the bare minimum to slip by are out there with sh!tty mews because the Wildlife dept. didnt have the knowledge that was required.
I guess I'm lucky. My F&G officer is also a re-habber and went through the list with me. I had gone way over and above the requirements in all respects and he noted that. We have become friends and help each other when injured raptors have a need. He went with me when I released my bird in Mar. Wrote a nice letter to his supervisor about how I had helped a bird with avian pox, etc. Like I said, I nice guy.
does anyone else have that problem with repeat posts? Mine popped up twice. Hmmmm
In the top right hand corner of the post it gives the author the choice to delete it. Sometimes when I'm posting something the computer will say "too many connections" and then if I hit Refresh then I will end up with a double post, but it's easy to delete. Right next to Modify.... ;D
As long as you passed the inspection... that's the important thing. These agents aren't trained. Our agent is more than willing to admit that he is a babe-in-the-woods when it comes to falconry. He even told another person that "Bob's teaching me as we go." At least he's honest about it. Congrats on passing the inspection. Get those permits in hand and go out trapping!!!
