I honestly dont see a purpose unless your raising an eyass. With a trained bird you could always throw food through the bars if you arent going to take the 5min. to feed on the fist.

Some harris hawks can scream! ...as well as some accipiters. Most passage birds you want to increase the food association, but there could be some early trapped birds you could have problems with. I think it just makes it easier for the molt.
Agreed. A local falconer has a Harris and it will blow your ear drums out with the screams for food. No, it's not an imprint either (imprint harris....baaaad idea) I am going to the hardware store to build one into each of the mews for the very reason you stated....ease of feeding during the moult.
