Your sponsor will want input into the design of the mews so I would wait until he/she says that the design is OK.

I have a question. Why are round poles used in the windows of mews. Wouldn't squared off slats work just as well and they would be ,much easier to deal with. ie 1x1s or 1x2s vertically spaced a few inches apart?
Splinters come off easier with square poles. Plus, they warp easier assuming your talking about wooden poles. Even if you use metal it is a smaller contact point on the birds feet on a corner if the bird bates at the square bars.

Hey I just wanted to let you guys know that my mews are up and running. I just finnished the roofing today and I have to put in perches in the morning but other than that I am just about on my feet and ready to go. Wish me luck on my inspection.

No problem. I won't say that you couldn't use square bars as I know a few folks that have them, but they have older birds that don't really do much bateing at the bars. It's just my humble opinion ;D Cheers, The Weasel

Polarbear: If your question is for resreach in designing a mew, give some thought to using galvinzed Tubing (conduit) as a sub. for wood & bambo, (strong and No splinters) for your windows and sky lights, conduit will out last them both, and is easyier to identifi, when it's time to change due to age, a little paint can add to life of conduit, many YEARS later.

California falconers PLEASE NOTE: Rounded bars are a legal requirement for a falconer housing a raptor.
Ooby, Where in you regs does it say they must be round? I couldn't find it.

Im going off of the CHC apprentice manual and study guide which quotes from the CA regs. I don't know the line, paragraph, page, subsection stuff, sorry.
As for weathering yard, no there doesn't have to be round bars on it, but there does on the mews.
