HR 669 proposed regulation prohibiting non-native animal possession: Go here to oppose it. And please share this site with those on your private email list before the bill's introduction April 23. Thanks!!
I am very interested in getting started. I live in Frederick MD but I have no where to keep a falcon. If I were to find a General or Master Falconer, will they house the bird for me? (for a fee I am sure)
NO. it doesn't work that way. You must have a State approved and federally recognized facility on your property to PROPERLY care for your Hawk. Best do some more reading and looking into your states falconry regulations .
It is good to have an end to Journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the End. - Ernest Hemingway
Another falconer (particularly if he's your sponsor) may house your bird for a short period of time (for example, if you take a week long vacation to France and can't bring the bird), however, keeping the bird on your property is by and far, your best option.
As you research and learn more about falconry, you will learn that it is a 24/7 commitment and if the bird's best interests are not at heart, you shouldn't get involved. A large part of being able to properly care for and protect your future hawk or falcon will be to have him housed on your property. You will be able to keep a close eye on the bird at all times and will be mere feet away from the bird, should an emergency arise.
Good luck on getting started. It's a long, but very rewarding process, should you follow through with it. Enjoy it! And don't worry about having a lot to learn... there isn't a single falconer alive who doesn't have more to learn.
Has anyone heard if the Feds are going to issues any eagle capture permits this year. If you have an answer e-mail me, don't know when I'll be back on here. amobrien@iowatelecom.net
