Some of my hoods can count as art... maybe... I'll start with one I finished on Friday (I think it was Friday). Dark brown hungarian with tooled and painted sun pattern on each eye panel. For female redtail.

I finished this one this afternoon. Three-color dutch hood with tooled center panel. Female redtail. Sorry that the last two pics are bad, the light in my room is really dim at night and the flash usually ruins the pictures.

The "hawk and rabbit hood", finished today. For MRT. It is a maynes hawk hood style, with a a flap in the back to prevent pinching. I actually don't like this style very much because the flap always gets pinched between the two edges of the back and pokes into the bird's neck. It works well, you just have to be careful to only go up to the point of perfect closure and no further. I drew the redtail, but however hard I tried my attempts at a running rabbit silhouette came out as little blobs with ears. Matt adapted a photo of a running cottontail to a silhouette (thanks again).

Thanks eragon. Nope, it's just for eBay, I just felt like making one with a picture of a RT chasing a cottontail. If I am keeping Alki I'll know before the beginning of September, and I'll make him a new hood then, probably a 3 color dutch because I like how the one up there turned out. I'm also going to make a set of trapping hoods next week, which I'll keep if I release Alki, or sell if I keep him. On the red one, after posting the pics I found a new way of threading the braces to make the back flap work better.

Waterbug has made quite a few hoods and may have her own opinions. This is a basic "how to" for a dutch hood. There are also DVD's (at Northwoods, WesternSporting and Mike's) that you can buy that has a walk through for hood making.

Yeah good luck! I have another one I need to post pics of... I just started a new job so haven't had a ton of time the last few days, and im going on vacation on Wednesday. I really want to make more though. I have making the dutch hood by rollins, and it has some good tips, but it is the most boring movie you will ever watch. My advice would be to buy a block and a bunch of leather, and go! You'll figure out what works and what doesnt.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wow, those are really good. How do you figure out what size to make them though? Do you measure your raptor's head first, or just make the hood large enough to adapt to the raptor's head?
Those are really nice, hope it bids well on ebay ^^
That last one didnt do great on ebay. I think the plainer ones do well there, but sometimes its just more fun to make one with a crazy pattern. Well I am back from my trip as of last night, with new bird in tow and working on her hood. If anyone has questions about hoods I am more than happy to give my advice but pm or email me please
