From what I've researched, Montana is sorely lacking in the falconry area, and as of what I know, I am the only person in the state currently scheduled to take my apprentice exam....are there any fellow Montanans (or even Wyoming or Idaho people) out there? Knowing some fellow falconers other then my sponsor and one other could help me greatly, and give me a chance to get some other opinions. This board is amazing!

Welcome to the forum. Sky is the only Montanan on the forum, I think. My appologies to any I've missed.
I'm about six hours or more from him. I live in Southern Idaho. More falconers around here than they let on. Secretive bunch. The Idaho Falconers Association is having real trouble staying viable. Few want the hassles of running a club. Most just want to fly our birds, or in my case, when I get one.
Never much of a "joiner" myself, so I can't talk. My sponsor lives 50 miles away, and other than many hours on the phone, we've actually only met once. Spent an enjoyable day on the Great Rift desert checking out some prairre falcon eyries. Distances can be a problem here in the West. There's usually game to be found to compensate.
Hey, funny thing is I'm probably closer to you, oldboy, then to Sky--I live closer to the western border myself, so decently close to Idaho. Well, that's the thing about the western states though, right? You measure things in hours, not miles--and if you're within a 2 hour drive, you're not that far away! Thanks for the luck-wishes, I'll keep them in mind when I have a game warden breathing down the back of my neck while I'm testing, whoo fun, right? ^_^

What town are you near? I'm maybe three and a half hrs from Mon-Ida pass, if the state police are occupied elsewhere. We try to make Yellowstone Park via West Yellowstone about the 1st or 2nd week of Aug. We like to be there when the buffalo are in rut. Seeing two bulls go at each other is worth the day trip.
I live within a 1/2 mile of the most southerly bend in the Snake River. Burley / Heyburn area aka Dogpatch. You can tell locals if they give directions by what used to be in a location. " You'll want to turn north where the bean warehouse was before it burned down."
Hey, i'm not quite a falconer yet but I am in montana and agree that this state seems to be lacking in the sport. I'm down here in the Big Hole near Dillon and am having one heck of a time finding a close sponsor! (Any help?) But yeah, its good to see someone else from MT.
So I'm interested in learning how to become a falconer. I'm in Corvallis Montana and need some help figuring somethings out. I'm 22 employed and my dad has land I could use for smaller game rabbits and such. Need to figure out a sponsor then go from there
