Hello all I'm new to the board and to falconry. I am a pre-apprentice hoping to work first with a RT. I'm happy to read of your stories and experiences. Thank you for this resource FB. I'm located in Parkersburg,WV on the Ohio River. I would be happy to know of any other West Virginian Falconers or Apprentices.
Im located in the eastern panhandle of west virginia, jefferson county. Im exstremely intrested in falconry. Ive hunted my entire life (mostly bow) and have always been intrested in birds of prey ever since I seen a hawk rip a rappit right in front of my treestand one day. Ive had a hard time locating a sponsor in which live relatively close to me. any help would be greatly appriciated
I love animals, and being around them while celebrating environmental awareness through the great culture of fishing and hunting, foremore guranteeing balanced biodiversity. I don't make excuses for loving the outdoors and being a hunter
Hey Redtail176 there is no "course" per say but there is an exam. everything you learn will come from your sponsor and your studies. Contact the WVDNR in Charelston at (304)-558-2771 and request a falconry packet this should help you get started, good luck.

Hello all, new to the falconry thing, currently located in Ripley and looking for a sponsor XD hopefully I'll get to work with an RT... looking forward to learning as much as possible from this awesome sport.
Greetings I'm new & been interested in falconry since I was a child really excited to finally know how to get contact about obtaining a license. Can anyone tell me if the state of WV requires an apprenticeship before you get your license & if so how long?
All states are bound by the federal laws on falconry. Which require a 2 year apprenticeship. So definitely. The state can make their regs more restrictive then the federal laws so : what you can fly, and who is eligible to sponsor you can be different then what the Feds require. I would suggest contacting your states game and fish department to find out where you can get a copy of your states falconry regs.
