I'm in seymour. I hate to say it, but I'm not even an apprentice falconer right now. I just don't have the space or time(I'm 16). I have been researching heavily for a while, and hopefully I can get a start in about 6 years. That should give me plenty of time to learn everything I need to know that I can learn from books and the net. Nice to meet you guys.

Thanks. I'm trying to figure out ways of getting started, but just don't have as much time as I'd like. I know my family will be living on 5-15 acres of land soon, which is partially forested. The area is a great area for wildlife, and as my dad and I drove past today I saw what I believe was a red shouldered hawk( the markings were a little too dark for red tails from what I've read). It should be interesting seeing how things go once out of the city. I've noticed that southern indiana has a load of hawks and falcons, so obtaining a bird won't be a problem, its the time, space, and lack of sponsors here that worries me. I guess all things find a way eventually.
You sure you want to word it that way? Also clarify if you do believe thats true. Maybe in hawkinghopeful's case because of the way he's clearly interested but is going to research it out first. Remember he's not the only one reading this thread.
I was speaking form my past experience. I waited for a couple of years with excuses like my kids needed my time or I need to work on a project car or any thing that I could think of. Once I started falconry, I realized that I could have done all the excuses and also been enjoying falconry. Just my opinion.

I'm trying to research as much as I can right now. Like I said, we're probably going to move to some land soon, and after I convinced my parents that it's ok to have a big angry bird in the back yard, I'd have to save for licenses, permits, etc... not to mention find a sponsor and bird. I've also heard it's pretty inexpensive after the first load of money, and reletively non-time consuming after you have the bird manned. It's still a long way away though, and I think I'll ask some dumb questions soon.
ok raptrvlr said how little time and space, how much sapce? we have 15+acres and forested land on our property and land all around, HOW MUCH LAND FOR SOUTHERN INDIANA WITH AND RT!
What the deuce are you staring at?BUY MY CRAP-stewie griffin
If your still looking for clubs for indiana you are looking for the Indiana Falconers Association. No web page yet so don't bother looking. If your interested I can get you some contact info. Other then that I am from the shelbyville/greensburg area. ;)look on a map and follow 74 you will find it.
