What kind of gas chambers do you guys use to kill mice or rats? Do you use a homemade ones or can you buy them somewhere? I usually drowned them but id rather keep em dry.
A single moment of understanding can flood a whole life with meaning.
hey buddy, heres a shocker Co2 is a poisonous gas.
and why not just throw the mice in there earlier then? you know, you can always keep them frozen. and personally, i believe its a bit more human to freeze something then introduce a gas that asphyxiates them.
CO2 would not harm your bird if the mouse was killed with it i dont think. Why not just whack the miceon the head.... its easier and costs about 2 calories.

You need to pay more attention in school. Seriously.. and then take a chill pill ontop of that.
Squirrelhawker I havnt tried it yet, but I hear putting dry ice in a garbage bag and then whatever critter your trying to kill seal it up and it works well.
CO2 is considered poisonous because it will kill you. It replaces the oxygen in your system.
Killing mice, rats, or whatever with CO2 and then feeding it to your bird would not harm your bird. When the animal dies, the oxygen in its body winds up disapearing anyway.
The dry ice uses the CO2 method, although Im not 100% positive that it actually releases CO2, but its the same effect and wouldnt harm your bird to eat the mouse afterwards.

I wouldn't use any gas because I have talked with other falconers that raise their hawk food and they say that they hate to see the after affects ( siezers, ect.) plus why not take a bat and hit them on the head. this saves money and the bad feeling that you get after watching the rats freek and die.

matt, CO2 IS a poisonous gas....but not in the type of poison you are talking about. Its "poisonous" because it can kill you. That doesnt mean it contaminates the body.
I think someone needs a jug of ice cold water dumped on them.

Drowning is a horrible death. You should consider more ethical methods. Cervical separation or freeing would be far better than drowning. CO2 will do the job with no risk to hawk. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
CO2 is NOT poisonous. Never has been, never will be. It simply displaces oxygen, which is what kills the victim. The lack of O2, not the presence of CO2. It's as humane a way of termination as as any.

I agree with Yarak on this one drowning is a horrible way to day, even if it is just a rat. I feel the same way about freezing them, it could take hours to kill the poor thing. When I kill my rats I go to safe way pick up a pound of dry ice. Put the dry ice inside a Tupperware container with holes in it. Then you put the container inside the cooler, let the cooler fill up with gas, then add rats. The rats almost fall asleep instantly and die within minutes.
I have not personally tried the cervical separation, but I hear it can be hard to do.
