yes it can be done but you have to have a soaring RT in my opinion to get the speed needed to gain the ground on them. hunting the RT from a tree or fist just wont cut it the pheasants just move to fast. I had dink out this week and he even got outrun by a quail. he was gaining ground on it but was still 10 ft back by the time the quail got up to speed and he had to level off but it was a great chase. I had a small hen RT that caught 6 quail but most of those where just luck of the draw though.
Alright went out today and in the first 3 minutes my PFRT slams a pheasant from the top of a tree. Hunt was over before i had time to start beating the bush here are some pics of the kill. Gonna have video up shortly as soon as i get it off the camera.
oh by the way... this is my first kill.... i have hawked every other day for the past month and just now got a kill. Chased squirrels, rabbits, quail and all to no avail....until today. It was great by the way... GREAT!!! now that i have found a 365 acre plot full of all types of game. The count should go up. By the way i will let the bird kill any game he thinks he can take unless its protected or out of season. Who am i to say he cant have something to eat
Heres the video, you will have to excuse me im excited. And watch close for my bird coming out of the tree . then in the right hand corner you will see the pheasant take off. Then my bird. Then you will hear the pheasant hit the barn..hahahahahaha and my bird catching it before it hits the ground. Not the best flight ever but fun. Oh and my mom and dad came by my house just before i went hawking and wanted to go.....thank god cause my mom brought her video camera.. plus i was so excited i forgot to dispatch the pheasant right away you see me realize this. Oh yeah and i am cussing like a sailor so beware!
