As some will know i just rescued a FHH . Her Beak had at least half an inch cut off (terrible) and now i have just snipped her talons or Claws if its a Hawk (did not no that until recently/)
I was cutting anything up to 1 cm on them all. Now the dilemma is whether to file to sharpen. Its going to be one hell of a task. I was recently told that within 2 weeks they will re-sharpen. I found that quite amazing. I left her out in the Sunshine all day and soaked her to the skin. She is sitting tonight on my fist looking like a different bird. And i am not joking...you would not think its the same bird. I have my doubts whether she had seen daylight in 2 years let alone a bath. She perched on one foot all day and had a look like a queen in the garden. A bit OTT perhaps but it was a joy to see.
In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.
Harris talons sharpen quite easily. If you are free loafting her you can take a 2x4 white pine board and just cover the very top with long leaf astro. The Pine board will sharpen those talons fast. I observed it with my sponsor's Hen Harris and tried it with my Male RT. It has worked everytime.
I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.

She is still just jumping leash length now so if i leave them for say 2 weeks before hopefully she fly's free will they sharpen up on their own accord. So she is still on the leash. As you can see they need some sorting out!
