Ok so quick question when you talk about feeding half a rat do you just use a cleaver and cut it in half while it's still frozen then let it thaw and feed that to the bird or what?
Just curious because I've heard that the major advantage of quail is that you can feed the breast meat for tidbiting and then give the rest organs and feathers for a meal that will be more nutritious? Just wondering...
Ditto what FB just said. We use half a large rat as a trade off piece. Although this year I'm going to try and start going for doubles, so I might try using a lure transfer method. -Joe
Actually its not that bad. We just stick it in a zip lock bag and it stays together quite nicely. I usually find the tail section easier to use. Thus, it just goes to prove that I do give a rat's a@#!!! lol Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. -Joe

You might use a plastic bag, im a fan of "toss it in the hawking bag". I dont use rats in the field, i use chicks. If i use a rat it is on an off day or tied to the lure. Chicks are easy and DO contain the nutrients a raptor needs. Sooner or later i will post my proof, curtesy of Neil Forbes.
