as far as petco goes i have heard far to many complaints from people everywhere about the condition of their feeders, snake breeders, falconers, and almost anyone else who has used them at one point in time, i know on the cornsnake forums there is basicly nothign but complaints about them maybe one, two people have had good experiences with them
Well, I went and got four mice at the petco near my house. They sell them live for $1.90 a piece. They were all perfectly healthy, though nowhere near tame. I had planned on breeding them for my bird until three escaped.
Happier of happy though I be, like them I cannot take possession of the sky, mount with a thoughtless impulse, and wheel there, one of a mighty multitude whose way and motion is a harmony and dance magnificent. - William Wordsworth
hey what's everyone's thoughts on guinea pigs? My sponsor and I were playing around with the idea of raising guinea pigs as a food source and i was wondering if anyone had tried this before and what people thought of this idea. Lou
"Men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared because love is held together by a chain of obligation which, since men are wretched creatures, is broken on every occasion in which their own interests are concerned; but fear is sustained by dread of punishment which will never abandon you."
What about a steady supply of rabbits would those be good?

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Rabbit is a very pale meet when compared to hares or rats, a bird should not be fed a steady diet of only rabbit, it would need to be supplemented with rodents and birds.

Ethics make the individual, not the other way around.
no rabbit meat is too light. There really isn't enough nutritional value there. Now hare on the other hand is a lot more rich. So far I have heard rats are definetely the way to go for a steady supply.
Guinea pigs are a lot of Bone and Fur and not much meat
Used to work with a guy from Peru who, as a child, had cavies or Guinea pigs as pets. Twice a year or so they would pick one out and roast it on an outdoor grill. The line between pet and food was thin in this case. He said they were delicious. He also said they were a lot longer legged than what our cavies are.
I couldn't raise something that cute for food. The noises they make and the goofy looks on their faces make them too endearing. Even as cold-blooded as I am, I have "rules". I even release my trapping vole into a big hay field after I'm done with it. Seems the right thing to do after it has helped me. Pretty lame, huh ?
I'm the same, Oldguy. Last fall my BC trap was loaded with a chipmunk that I rescued from my Brittany. Trapping went on for weeks (that's another story) but I kept the chipmunk fed with hamster food. When I finally caught my hawk, I released the chipmunk in my yard. I guess I'm just as lame as you! Maybe that's because I'm almost the same age. Within a few days my dog killed a chipmunk which I fed to the hawk. So it may be that my bait ended up as hawk food after all.
