Well Aaron, you were right unfortunately. She died quickly. I went to bed at 1:30 and woke at 6:00 to check on her. When I came downstairs, I say her tailfeathers poking through the crack in the door in her gh. I was hoping she was just laying down, but she was dead. I feel absolutely horrible. I feel like I failed Tommy and I failed my sponsor. I am so upset and angry at the whole deal. I got a hold of my sponsor and he said that sometimes we can't control these things, and that we will work on getting another. I'd rather just have Tommy back.
I feel that it reflects poorly on me, and poorly on my sponsor for his first apprentice losing his first bird. He re-read Mcranahans book and mentioned crop stasis, but I really can't see it being that. I hate to think that 1.) She basically starved to death, and 2.) He thinks it was my fault. I just can't see it being that. She was 900g the day before which has been her most responsive/hunting weight. I fed her 3 doc's which is roughly 100g so she would be around 900g in the morning. She lost 100g overnight. I am just very upset.
I am leaning more towards acute asper. I went back and researced the symptoms and they were all there. Cyanosis (blue color) of the mucous membranes, labored breathing, drooping wings, no appetite, rapid weight loss, roused feathers etc. I just don't know where the hell she could've gotten it from. Her mews wa is bone dry. I went out and disinfected them both just in case. They were totally clean though. I read online about populations of turkey inhaling the spores in the woods from damp leaf litter. I just don't know. All's I know is I am very upset. I need to get going on another bird soon too, but I am just very upset. Anyone else ever lose a bird, especially one as tough as a rt?
