Last weekend i noticed my pmrt was acting a little strange. I go into the mew at least a couple times a week while hes moulting to feed him off the fist and normally he jumps right to my garnished glove. But saturday he wouldnt come to the glove, so i just left him the quail to eat whenever he felt like it. I checked again sat night and still he didnt eat it. Sunday i droped a fresh quail into the shoot, he didnt attack it like he normally does but he pecked at it, and had a few bites and then let it drop to the floor. Monday morning i droped a fresh rat in and same thing. This is when i started to worry. Im thinking maybe sour crop? could be a number of things? I called my sponsor he told me too observe him for a while, watch and see if his movements are lathargic or if he has any kind of abnormal breathing etc... I told him ive been observing him nonstop for a couple days and everything seems fine except for the loss of appetite.. So long story short i jess the bird up and take him to the vet. The vet it well known and handles a lot of raptors for the san diego wild animal park.. he casts the bird checks everything his crop is empty, his feathers look great he checks the eyes and looks down the throat. we weigh him and he is Fat really Fat , hes at 34 oz the exact weight he was trapped at. So the doc seems to think theres nothing wrong and that the bird is simply not that hungry, and sends me on the way. Its now tuesday and i got home from work ,, I just put a fresh quail in the shoot and guess what? he doesnt want it.
