I know I've been away for a while, but I hope you guys are still willing to help me out. Here's the story...
About 2 weeks ago I noticed one of our RT's was squinting one eye a bit. She's free lofted so I thought she'd bumped it on something. I couldn't find any abrasions or matter in her eye or drainage. When it was still closed the next day I called the vet my sponser uses and he perscribed neomyacin/dexamethazone (sp?) eye drops. After 5 days of treatment no improvement and now both eyes were inflamed. So to the vet we went. He said it was a bad case of frounce, put her on gentamyacin (SP?) drops and metronidezol tablets. By the next day she was unable to perch, eyes closed ect. So we started tube feeding her pedialyte and liquified chuck roast twice a day. She began to improve, and by sunday was sitting up and lucid. The vet called me back and said he had rethought her condition and thinks she has asper. So he changed her meds. That was yesterday. Today he is off and thus unreachable. Throughout all this she has been in the house, in a large rubbermaid tub covered with a towel near a heater. Last night I thought she was strong enough to try her perch, but when I tried it she seems to have no control over one leg, and she keeps folding her tail up under her and falling backwards, so back in her nest she went. This morning when I went to check on her she had a full out seizure. Lasted about 1 minute. Now I just don't know what to do. Before today she has had no problems breathing, but after the seizure she was wheezing pretty bad. I have looked online at pictures of frounce, and I don't see anything like that in her mouth at all. A little bit pale, but certainly nothing like the growths I've seen in pictures. No lumps or cheesy deposits at all. When asked where she could have gotten frounce from, the vet said it must have been a mouse a fed her 2 months ago. When I asked if I should be concerned about my other birds, he said no. So now I am royally confused. I don't see the typical symptoms written about for frounce or asper. All I see are loss of appetite, eye inflamation, and neurological quirks. Have any of you guys seen anything like this? Any ideas of where or who to go to for more information? Any input greatly apprieciated!!!!!!
