I have 2 and my brother-in-law has one they are nice have had any problems with them and the batteries are cheaper. they will run fine for a month straight with no problems and still have 15 more days reserve. I also like the flat design on it as apposed to the other ones on the market. they do have a strong signal also. its not a transmitter for the long winger but works great for anyone else.
I've heard bad things about them. I LOVE Ed Levine's stuff out at Merlin Systems. His top of the line stuff is only around $160 and it is a tap on/off model. I'd give him a call. Plus, the customer service at Marshall is crappy. Ed answers the phone himself and I've never heard anything but the HIGHEST PRAISE for his level of customer service. And the answer is no, I don't work for his company, I just love his stuff so much that I've bought about 5 of his transmitters. ;D

Matt, don't waste your money on a scout. Get a merlin systems 1/3MX. It is THE best transmitter on the market right now hands down. And this i've heard from people who've used both marshall, merlin, and L&L transmitters. Depending on your receiver, Ed has one crystal for the 1/3MX that takes the range WELL farther than the advertised 40miles. I think it's 216.270 but i'm not positive. Personally I have heard too many bad things about Scout's to even consider them an option when merlin has a BETTER transmitter for the same price.
Just my opinion on it.

Funny, i have always preferred marshall for everything except a hacking trans. I have always had good customer experiences with them and never had a malfuntion. Everyone here that uses the Scout says they are awesome so i might even try one.

i havent had a problem with the scout and its helped me get my bird back a few times. if i had the money i would have gone with a powermax back then. but now they have a huge antenna because its supposed to be for the trac pack set up
