I recieved this e-mail a couple of days ago. It was posted on the Yahoo groups. I'm sure he will not mind me posting it here.
On Saturday morning I went out to feed my breeding birds, and I
discovered that my breeding pair of Barbary falcons had been stolen.
The bolt on the door was unlatched and the door was open. About a
month earlier, I had an imprint Barbary taken with its perch right
out of a chamber in my yard. The first theft, I thought, could have
been random. Now, I am convinced that it was not. Last week a friend
had a pair of sakers and a tiercel peregrine taken from their
chambers. I am offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to
the arrest of the thieves or the recovery of my birds.
For over twenty years I have welcomed falconers to my home and was
happy to show them my birds. I will no longer do so; trust has been
broken. Whoever took the Barbaries passed over more accessible birds.
They knew what they wanted and where the Barbaries were.
I was home for most of the day Friday, so these birds were taken
either while I was home or during the time I was flying my falcon or
out to dinner. I am looking into a surveillance system, and I am
really bummed.
I am asking your help if you should hear of anyone recently
obtaining birds. I would also be interested if a breeder who had
never had any luck before suddenly started producing Barbaries. I
also would like to know if Barbaries are still used for abatement
work on the East Coast.
I intend to send this to all the lists of which I am a member. Thanks
in advance for your help.
