My hearing is pretty good still,at 42,but my preference is to split a set of bells and put high tone on the train an one low tone on one anklet. The hearings great....unfortuneately,the liver,s like a piece of Chantilly Lace. Cheers Allan.WHC.UK.
Just got a set of low tone equator reinforced bells from Mike's Falconry to replace the cheap bells I had. Nice thing is I can hear the lower pitched bells much farther away. Too many years driving firetrucks has given me bilateral highrange deafness. Kurt
Austin, Are you still interested in making bells? There is an article on one of the yahoo groups (from their files section) which gives a step by step (in excruciating detail) approach to how to make bells. Even I thought I could follow it, and I am not the best craftsman. Also, if you search ebay for a doming block, you can find it, and the hammer and other stuff for under $25-50 total. If you're interested, send me a private e-mail (jdorrian@wideopenwest.com) and I'll respond with the article attached. Just refer to this post to remind me who you are. -Joby
