I've searched for some calls, and found the Mr. Squirrel whistle which is supposed to imitate a young squirrel distress call, and another that makes 6 calls. The one that makes 6 calls barks, chatters, gives distress call etc. They are pretty cheap and was wondering if anyone has tried them. Some reviews on the products were great saying they will call the squirrels right in, others said they don't work that well. Anyone have any experience with them?
I have found the best call is simply a squeak that you make by suckning on a finger or the back of the hand. I have called many a squirrel down the tree with this squeak. It will also make squirrels show themselves in the tree. The only other call I use is the chatter call because I can't make that sound myself.
Put your palm to your mouth and make a kissing sound with your lips, touch your lips to the inside of your middle finger to get volume and immitate the scream of a baby squirrel, rat or rodent. Thus it is called the kiss of death as everything that comes to it dies. I have called everything from squirrels to coyotes with this sound. ET ;D
I am a big fan of Mr. Squirrel. It works best out of the many I have tried. All it takes is a suirrel to poke his head around the side of a tree to see where the noise is coming from and the hawk will zero in on the movement. Caught MANY a squirrel with that call. I assume you are talking about the small metal disk call right?
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
That's the one. There is another ont that is a tube that has a rubber looking bulb at the end which is supposed to make more sounds. Ever try that kind?
I have that one, it looks cool and sounds good, but I have never seen a squirrel react to it. It may be the way I am using it. I still carry it and use it, but I also use the Mr. Squirrel. Ed... I am going to try that "kiss of death" next time.

So would you guys suggest this method over a catapult or air-gun?? They are both legal in the Uk, but i'll look around for a squirrel call. I am going to enjoy a lot of solo squirrel hawking & want to be able to serve my mrt enough slips whilst being out alone. When a friend tags along we'll use poles or i'll send them up the tree.......lol

Your not allowed to use poles here. I use catapults but you run the risk of hurting your bird. Just work out what time your squirrels are active and about
Great book but not sure if Texas squirrel hawking would be the same in the uk. There are more fox squirrels in the USA ( none in the uk) the uk has the grey but also a red squirrel.
