took my rt hunting for the first time today and after ignoring 4-5 rabbits grabed one by the leg as it went into a hole. it was the first slip it took and I had to reach down the rabbit hole to help pull it out. and with it also being my birth day its been a great day ;D
( thoughts of the rabbit ) Oh yea gonna make it Oh yea gonna make it. Almost there. Almost there. AND...I...MADE...What the hell?!?! Seriously though, congrats
Well I went on my first hunt (not with my own hawk, but with some friends) yesterday, thought it would be nice to put up pics. I saw 4-5 rabbits, dad helped, but all in all only one was caught. But thanks for the hunt anyways Kenny, it was fun! (Least we caught something )

Back to rabbit hawking...or not.
Maybe next time Kenny, maybe next time. Only found one rabbit in that area anyways. Oh well guess you'll have more luck squirrel hawking anyways! Thanks for the great time.
Wow, that a very beautiful red-tail. I especially like the tail on it! She's got a fantastic bird, it looks like, from the pics! Hope you had fun on the hunt!
"Falconry is not a hobby or an amusement; it is a rage. You eat and drink it, sleep it and think it. You tremble to write of it, even in recollection. It is as King James the First remarked, an extreme stirrer up of passions." --- T.H. White
"...no hobby should either seek or need rational justification. To find reasons why it is useful or beneficial converts it at once from an avocation into an industry, lowers it at once to the ignominious category of an exercise undertaken for health, power or profit." -Aldo Leopold

I had seen that bird in action a few times her first year. She's real gamey and will hunt from a soar. Fairly agile, too. The falconer that has her really lucked out.
Katana's a Dark Morph FRT, she's Kaylee's bird. That day she was a bit lazy, I think they said she had just finished moulting? She mainly stuck to the trees, and at one point we had to wait for her and Kaylee ended up having to retrieve her. We finally got one after most of the hunt and then ended it. Plenty of rabbits by the fence and under trailers next to a large dirt road, so it was easy to get them out and in the open.
Hopefully we'll get out again sometime since the relatives are out by them too, not to mention the good falconing areas out towards the panhandle. Wish I could go to the THA trapping meet this coming weekend, but I'd hate to take a 4 or more hour drive just to watch.

You can learn a lot by watching
Bob's right, if you can afford the gas (and prices are going down right now) not only would it be a learning experience, but it shows enthusiasm which will help you find a sponsor.
btw - her name is actually Kylie Taylor.
** I think this thread is supposed to be about uthawkers bird? Maybe this should have been somewhere else?**
