Wow, good post really! Most of the quarry available around my house will be snowshoe hare and grouse. I was walking in the forest yesterday, 4 inches of snow on the ground, millions of hare footprints everywhere, but not a hare visible... At this time of the year they are supposed to still be brown, so supposedly visible on the snow, but they ar eso good at hiding that most people here trap them instead of hunting them... I had a dog with me and she didn't set a hare moving... Nor a grouse either! Am I wrong in thinking I want to practice falconry if I cannont even find quarry when there are loads of them all around me??

I know nothing about grouse. Snowshoes are crepuscular. The hawk is much better at locating game than you. We have lost much of our hunting prowess over the last 30 thousand years.... If they are there you will chase them at some point. Lots to do before then. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away

got to remember that your bird also can see light wavelengths that you cant. this is where alot of birds see rabbits and birds in the bush. reflective light.
once you get to where you can tell how to see areas that are pregnant with game you will do great. its like before i started hunting with a bird. i never saw one. wasnt looking right. now i see them everywhere. game is like that for me too. i am not 100% but i am good. my bird is even better. sometimes he flies somewhere that i didnt think i would have gone. sometimes he takes me hunting.
I'm sooooo bad at seeing game it's awful... In the woods some weeks ago I was 5 feet away from a very large male grouse, my mother was with me shouting: look at the grouse look there there juste there" and I was kinda blind until the bird moved... Very very good camouflage... And I do hope that the bird visual accuracy is way better than mine! lol
