Our club apprentice coordinator said to me once that he wanted to see more people hunt their red tail using a t-perch so i thought I would give it a try. I will update more later to keep all informed. I will be making my perch out of a telescoping swimming pool net pole. If you cut the net and ring of the net off except the bottom and than wrap that with leather of AstroTurf I think it will work great. I already bought the net, and will modify it this week and post some picks.

I Hunt my Harris from a T perch only. I use the T in the field for bunnies and in the parking garages for pigeons. He is so wed to the T perch, it can be used as a lure in effect as he will come to the T from anywhere around. I made mine from an adjustable length painters pole and added a T section made from PVC wrapped in Sisal for the top section. I will post a picture when I can find one. There are several types of adjustable poles available. One type is where the pole extends and them you turn a compression ring to tighten it down. This works, but it gets tedious in the field while trying to balance the bird on the T. I prefer the next type 100%. It has a button on the side to allow the pole to extend out and lock into place by releaseing the button. Much easier in the field. Total cost to build one- Pole=$30 for a 6-12ft, T and covering=$5.

Ken, another cheap alternative is a painters pole that comes with the roller. Just glue the roller part so it doesn't spin and ta-da! instant T perch.

i use a t perch with my HH in open fields. My birds took right to it. They view it now as a opportunistic place to hunt , so they often come to it better than the fist.
mine is made out of pvc and is a little heavy but i made a belt with a cup holder on it . So now i can place the bottom of it in the cup holder and its not so tiring to carry. Also i have a ATV with mounts to carry the T perch. This way i can drive slowly through the brush while the birds hunt. I also use it to follow tractors while they bushhog. i just drive slowly a little ways behind them and against the wood line As the rabbits break across the open my birds can intercept them head on. This way the rabbits have to change direction and my birds are up to full speed. Its also far enough away from the tractor to keep them from noticing all the mice.
yah i just made mine with a painters pole, and some pvc fittings for the pearch. then i rapped some leather around the pvc, and ta da you have a t pearch.
