could not find basenjis.dk. Is this the site you suggested? www.basenji.dk/
This site offers no health info for the breed. The basenji club of America is the AKC recognised parent breed club for the basenji approved and accepted in 1990.
I will try and talk to some of the breeders and educate myself at the Del Sur Kennel Clug dog show this afternoon. I don't know how many basenjis will still be there, should be at least one, the best of breed winner should be staying for group. They go into the ring at 11:00, our ring time isn't till 1:00.
It is NOT my intention to discourage anyone from any breed. My point is to do the research and learn about the breed before you select the breed or pup.

IMHO if your going to get a dog, get one exactly for your needs, not one that half-asses it.
even if the JRT makes it a good squirrel dog, why bother with getting it half beagle?

Then why do you have a jackabee to hunt rabbits? JRT's were bred to hunt moles and rats like you said, so why not go all the way and get a pure beagle?
Using your own logic you made yourself look like a moron
Done being rude to people yet?

Define smart. Smart from your perspective or smart from a dogs perspective. From a dogs, the smart thing to do is follow the rabbit until you get it. If someone yells and you go back to them that prevents you from getting your food [rabbit]. From that perspective the beagle is smarter. Listening is subjective due to what i just said. JRT's use their eyes b/c their nose isn't as good as a beagles.
I understand why the cross is made, but just because you have one doesn't mean A) your the expert on them and b) they are better than everything else.

Im not saying they are better than everything else. or that im the expert on them. they are one of the best dogs for what i need. he wanted to know about squirrels.
i wanted a rabbit dog, i got one.
he wants a squirrel dog, why would he get a rabbit dog?

He asked a question and you came back with a rude response. He asked a question, didn't say he was getting one. The forum is like the gym, check your ego at the door.
