well i decided to pick up a pup tommorrow... this has been on my mind for a long time now and i decided on a vizsla. i was looking into getting a pup around this time and most of the other breeders arent going to have a litter untill spring. the breeder i will be picking him up from is a bit expensive but the dogs are well garunteed, and champion field dogs. the pup she has for me she tells me is very birdy and i am living in a place with a bunch of quail to teach him with. i went with this breed because i plan on flying several types of birds and i would like a dog that can work plenty of different game. i know a few people who use them in the field. one person uses them with their harris hawks for rabbits and another uses them to point meadowlarks for his merlins. i think that i might fly a coopers on quail once i go general since i have a lot around my house, and it would be handy to have a good pointer. well i will post some pictures about it tommorrow!
I have a smaller (approx 38 lbs) female Vizsla that's just over a year old. I don't there there is a better dog under the sun. Mine has become more of a family pet then hard core hunter but she would be great at it if I spent the time with her. The quail here are few and far between but she's stalked down and killed 2 squirrels and 1 cottontail. I do not think you will be disappointed with your dog or your decision. All I can suggest is get him in the field a lot or get regular walks in or he will be a hand full. Our Vizsla is super smart and knows she shouldn't do certain things but does them anyway out of boredom I think. She has about a 10 minute attention span for new toys unless there are treats involved.
These were taken quite a while ago but they are the most recent ones I have available at the moment.

Kyle, here is a picture I took a few years back of Michael Kuriga, Scott Simpson and Arrow, Michaels golden eagle. If you look right above Michael, you will see Scotts pointer and Michaels Vizila {sp}.The eagle is on the ground above them with a cottontail that the dogs kicked up. The eagle would sit on the top of the cliffs and watch the dogs down below and when they kikced up a rabbit, the eagle would dive down to catch it. img252.imageshack.us/img252/8003/goe0841nz9.jpg
One of my buds has a wire-haired vizsla. It is pretty cool looking. I think they make awesome dogs, much better for goshawker than my English pointer... but maybe I will turn to the dark side and get a pointy winged thing someday... then Ill need the big running dog... but for right now something that will point fur and feather and flush ducks is hard to beat. Have fun guys!
