Thanks Hawkstir, I haven't seen that behavior yet. But I'll keep my eye out for it. She's currently crated when we're not home. I'll move her into the basement setup I've got for her tonight or tomorrow night. -Joe
Unfortunately, no they can't. But we'll know soon enough. Just one more week left and we'll have'em on the ground. I aim to start their training early, in fact I'm planning on wearing an Easter Bunny suit during the labor and delivery. I'll rough 'em up on the way out and then I'm sure they'll hate bunnies!!! ;D
lol I told my sister this morning Hey clara don't you want Dachshund? One of your very own! but I left out the small print... (we can teach it to hunt!) but momy didn't agree and it was flushed before it reached the table! O well I am perfectly happy with one princess!

Nice attempt, you'll get far!!! I had to use that kind of approach to even get my wife to let me pursue the sport. "Honey, think of what the kids will learn about nature and such!!" ;D
Not yet, but soon. She actually slept through the whole fireworks thing. Even the neighbors were letting them off in front of our house and she just slept right on through it. She's slowed down some as her belly has gotten bigger over this last week. She's actually almost dragging her belly on the ground now. She did however, kill another bird yesterday, although it wasn't much of a kill. A baby woodpecker that looked to have about half of her feathers down dropped out of its nest and Bayli was on it in a second. She tried to wolf it down as I chased her around the yard, but she wasn't quite as quick as she used to be, due to her recent weight gain. ;D
I had a local doxie breeder come over early yesterday and look over all of the stuff I got for the whelping. She's a real nice lady and offered to help me with Bayli, if I need it, even if it's late. She said I've got everything I need. I'm going to put Bayli in her whelping area tonight so she can get used to it and I'll make sure that the heater is on for her as well. I need to maintain a constant 80-85 degree temp in the room that she'll be in for the puppies sake for at least the first 3 weeks. I've been checking daily and haven't noticed any milk coming down yet or any of the nesting behavior Hawkstir mentioned yet. My wife thinks the puppies will come over the weekend and not on Friday. We'll just have to see. But, since tomorrow is the 63rd day from their first coupling that I know of, I won't let her go too long before taking her in to the vet. Either way, I'll keep you guys posted over the weekend. It'll be easy as the whelping pen is right next to my home computer. -Joe
Good luck Joby, I see Bayli is just as wild as Diana

Well, the first puppy arrived at round 11:20 and was a 7.1 oz black and tan female. The second pup was born less than a half hour later and was a 7.9 oz black and tan male. We're waiting on the 3rd sibling to arrive. So far both of the first two pups were born breach without any problems and they latched on and started nursing right away. Bayli, even though it is her first litter, seemed to know exactly what to do and has been a great mother. Now we just need to get that last pup out so that Grandpa Joe can get some shut eye before taking them in to see the vet tomorrow morning. -Joe
Well, after a couple hour wait (advised by our Med Vet) the final puppy, a B/T female was born. This one had some trouble breathing so we rushed it into the Med Vet where they stimulated it and raised its temperature. Three hours later, I brought her home and put her in with her litter mates and Bayli. I got her to lick a teat with the Colostrum and then left her in there in order to get some rest. She was rooting around for a teat, so I figure she'll be fine. Anyway, I didn't sleep at all last night, so I'm gonna go crash before I have to take Bayli and her litter to the Vets later this morning. -Joe
