Watch out for dogs becoming conniving too. My dog will beg for cookies from my mom, and then when shes gone, she will beg me, and when i leave she will be my sister, and then she'll beg my stepdad, ultimately getting like 8 cookies a day, it took us a bit to figure that little "trick" of hers out... that goes along with the whole "make sure your family is on the same page" thing. good luck matt!
Also since he is young you can easily do a thing called a floppy puppy which creates a lot of trust. Doing this also helps show who is pack leader. Sit on the ground with your back propped against a wall (You might not need a wall I am used to big dogs) and roll the dog into your lap so that his stomach is up and his legs bat at the air. use your body to help hold the dog, with Justin who is only 20 lbs still I let him relax between my thighs but with Cookie (around 55 lbs) she takes my whole leg and some of my upper body. He might try to wiggle out, bat at the air, leg you, sneeze and/or everything else he can. He can not come down to he relaxes and just chills for about 30 seconds to start and build up. To let him out of the floppy puppy you move one leg aside and the dog should be pretty limp and he should roll onto his side. Stroke him from ear to tail, long strokes that are calming. It he tries to get up push him back down, if when you are letting him down he struggles to get away put him aback in floppy puppy until he relaxes again and try laying him down again. It is alright to use your hands to hold him too. I usually hold cookie on her shoulders.
Just a few things to think about. I think that makes sense, hopefully it does.
LOL!!! Apparently, you have never owned a JRT....you cannot hold them in that position for more than two seconds flat.....then they are running on the ceiling again......As for the Biting issue, The method I have used with all four JRT's I have had is when they bite, I simply grab the lower jaw and apply a pressure to the soft skin in their mouth beside the tounge. I hold for several seconds until the dog is clearly uncomfortable(not Hurting) and I let go. An audible shout command is also given at the same time. Now the hyper dog ,Zero, does not bite down at all.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
so far ive done: Muzzle him with hand, and i found if u flip him on his back, stare into his eyes at the same time... HE DOES NOT LIKE THAT! lol
weasel i might try yours, but im not sure if i should change tactics, his biting has gone down so much, and when he does bite, he doesnt try to make marks on ur skin anymore
Naa, if what you are doing works, keep doing it. There are many ways to cause the dog to realise it is not fun to bite.
