I assume you mean the american pitbull. It would depnd on what kind of hunting you want to do to began with. Beagles for rabbits, bird dogs for birds, other hounds for raccoon, bear, cougar. anway, i have never heard of them being used for hunting, though if needed a body guard for a beagle or something they might do well for that. But no, they weren't bed for hunting, originally for bear and bull "baiting" and then on to dog fighting. And now, depends on who owns em...they can be sweet or pyscho, they are impressionable and intelligent like children, and much depends on the owners treament and training of them in my opinion. Okay, Peace.

well, i read some of book about all of these things once. I think they arae all pretty much the same thing, or closely related, just as the Amreican Staffordshire terrier, look at it..it's a pitbull with a differnt name, my neighbors have one and a pitbullm the staffordshire is smaller than the "pitbull" and is definatly dominant over the other one and loves to roughhouse and wrestle with people and play tug of war and chew on crap...most dogs do but anyway, looks, like apitbull, is strong, agile and very strong jaws. I used to swing him around on the end of a rope. umm, i would think they are all descended from the same stock more o less anyway. And, non of these dogs were "hunting" dogs. Though they may have been used to run with the hounds after dangerous game..who knows. Check online and get a book. You;ll have better luck that way.

All Bulldogs were bred to take on large critters. Not hunting dogs per se. I would not use one and they tend to be aggressive when excited. Nice dogs but I can certainly see one chomping the hawk as well as the rabbit. Also short nosed breeds, bad for running. The Scott Type AB has more of a Pitbull look with a longer muzzle. Still not a hunting dog.
ABs were: guard dogs (some are very human aggressive and dog aggressive), catch dogs for cattle or hogs (also aggressive and persistant).
If you want a hunting dog get a hunting breed. ABs are expensive and there are lots of bad ones being bred. The tend to have elbow and hip dysplaysia, that's what an AB breeder told me. If you do buy one, beware. Do research.

American bulldog has no terrier blood in it dont confuse it with any pit shaff or bull terrier. It is one of the first old world breeds in the massif linage
